Designer Insights and Tiny Houses

Thank you Terry’s Fabrics for contacting us about our thoughts on design! Turns out they have featured over 500 designers in the past and now they wanted to get perspective from a tiny houser. Vive la tiny house revolution!!!

Very nicely done! I mean your hOMe. I thought that the first time I looked at photos of it.
Also great to be asked for your insight by Terry’s Fabrics. 🙂

I love the front and back of the interior but can the center portion be changed to an open concept and what amount of open space would it be?

Could the two sitting areas and the small wall between them be taken out without causing a problem to the whole structure. thank you for a very interesting website. It’s very helpful and any thing for Ontario Canada would be helpful.

Hi Linda! Yes, for sure you can change the interior configuration to any way that you want it to be. The only challenge with the interior and placement of components is the wheel well protrusions which bump into the tiny house living space by a few inches. That makes it challenging to move the stairs to any old place. Other than that though, you can modify it to look any way you want.

Hi Gabriella, since having come across your site I have become one of you and Andrews biggest fans!!! The concept of the tiny home you guys designed was the answer for me of years of knowing that there was a better way of having a well built home without giving up a modern feel with all the comforts of home.
I plan on purchasing the plans and putting in my order to have EcoCabins build my tiny house this coming spring/summer in April of 2016, a gift to myself for my 43rd birthday. I plan to be fully self sufficient with a 1800-2000 watt solar system once I have the home in place on some land I’ll be purchasing in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on the outskirts of the city, including a 6k magnetic power generator that I can also use to charge my battery bank and run things should I need to, and like you and Andrew having a well drilled where I’ll run the water through a good filtration system doubled with Activated Charcoal. Sorry for the book but I’m so inspired, a couple of questions though….. 1) Is it possible to have EcoCabins build the exact same tiny home that you guys have because that’s the design I want and… 2) Is there a whole house surge protector that you might recommend installing. Thanks Again……

That is SO great Antonio! Love that you are doing all that and especially in Mexico which we love so much. To answer your questions, EcoCabins can build one with the same square footage and most of the finishes but if you want the exact cabinetry from IKEA, you will need to ask them to not install their cabinets and you will need to install your own. Other than that though, it’s pretty darn close. In terms of a whole house surge protector there is probably something you can put on the breaker panel? Sorry, we don’t really know about that piece. Let us know if you find something you like! 🙂

Hi again Gabriella, if at all possible could you please, please give me the cabinet information that you and Andrew used for your kitchen cabinets and espresso look of the other cabinets in the main area. I would So Greatly appreciate the info and promise to send pictures and make a video once complete. Thank you so much in helping a dream come true…..

Also, if once I buy the plans would the materials list include those particular cabinets information so I could purchase them. I just love that look, thanks again….

    I just don’t understand
why anyone would think that a design with a ladder to a loft bed in the middle of the walkway is a good idea!?
