Do you know the 7 pillars of towing a tiny house o Do you know the 7 pillars of towing a tiny house on wheels? 🛣️

1. Speed - Keeping one's speed down while towing is the #1 safety measure a driver can take.

2. Weight Distribution - Your tiny house needs to have 60/40 weight ratio, with the heavier side leaning towards the front, or tongue, of your trailer.

3. Mirrors - Large side mirrors are a great addition to safety gear in a towing vehicle.

In the years that we've been helping others achiev In the years that we've been helping others achieve their successful move to the tiny home lifestyle, here are 5 mistakes you should avoid:

👀🔨 Overlooking headers - Just imagine taking a good, strong wall and making a hole in it. Terrifying, right?! Somehow, you are decreasing its structural integrity, and you have to look for a way to balance the weight. And this is why you should not forget to put headers.

📏🚨 Going beyond the trailer width: the maximum legal road limit width of trailers without a special permit is 8.5-feet. Build over your wheel wells to maximize interior width without exceeding the limit, but remember to account for siding, sheathing, drip edge, roof overhang, etc., on both sides, so you can stay street-legal.

💸💰 Assuming tiny house building is cheap: while it is true that an essential foundation of the tiny living craze is its affordability, not everything about your tiny home is cheap, nor should it be. If you go the DIY route, it can be hard to access financing, so you need to already have a good chunk of money saved up for your build.

Let there be creative light! Here are 7 of our fav Let there be creative light! Here are 7 of our favorite functional and creative ideas when it comes to tiny home windows.

👀☀️A wall of windows - This look is ideal for your kitchen, living room, mini-office, or another room where you don't mind being on full display.

📷🪟 Picture windows - You may not be able to open a picture window, but it does give you a low-cost opportunity to get creative! Add one above the sofa in your living room to let in more natural light.

🌲🌬 Awning windows - Want to turn your loft into a luxurious treetop retreat? Install two awning windows across the room from each other, and open them up to full capacity. The cross breeze you'll create is pure paradise.

💡🪜 Transom windows - add polish and height to the overall space when installed over another window. When placed over a door, they allow light to filter in from the next room.

🎨🕵️‍♂️ Stained glass - Love the idea of a home full of windows but also cherish and crave your privacy? Try turning a few into stained glass creations!

🔒🦅 Attach shutters to your tongue side - When you're driving down the road, your tiny house is vulnerable to a host of environmental irritants, from flying gravel to bird droppings. This is when you'll want your windows to be as protected as possible, especially those on the tongue side of your trailer.

🌞🕶 Upgrade your windows with tinting - Window tinting is a fantastic way to save energy, add flare, and block the view into your home. Importantly, for a tiny house, often parked in RV parks and backyards, this could provide a welcome opportunity to create a greater sense of privacy without blocking sunlight.

💪🏻💸 Asphalt shingles - while durable, they can be costly, difficult to install, and not great for highway transport.

🤘🏻⏰ Metal roofing panels - a lighter option that can be installed without professional help, but can be susceptible to rust depending on metal type--some folks do this intentionally for the rustic look. Ultimately, a metal roof can last you 80-100 years!
